Tom Ford on Happiness![]() |
“I am happier at my ranch in the middle of nowhere watching a bug carry leaves across the grass, listening to silence, riding my horse, and being in open space. So I have some sort of security that if I lost everything in my life, I would be very happy with the simple things because they are the ones that are important…. I learned that happiness for all of us is a switch that you flick in your brain. It doesn’t have anything to do with getting a new house, a new car, a new girlfriend, or a new pair of shoes. Our culture is very much about that; we are never happy with what we have today. We always think that we need something else to be happy… When I am on my deathbed, I don’t think I will be thinking about a nice pair of shoes I had or my beautiful house. I am going to be thinking about an evening I spent with somebody when I was twenty where I felt that I was just absolutely connected to them.”

This is so true.
Wonderful words. Happiness is really about simple things, but we tend to forget that too often.
Ada
True, so simple… yet the most difficult.
He is absolutely right. Thanks for this reminder.
Maria, hi!
I completely agree with this extraordinary man – happiness is about living a simple life, with simple pleasures, surrounded by people we love.
Albert Schweitzer, another great man, also said:
“In the hopes of reaching the moon men fail to see the flowers that blossom at their feet.”
Love this post, Maria.
Wish you a happy and blessed new week.
Tereza
Love this! Have a great start to the week

beautiful text!!! (unfortunately, we often need someone else to remind us of what happiness really is
)
Amen! xx
Funny that, later I got this quote in the mail, also very true and completely the opposite:
“Home is a refuge, not only from the world but a refuge from my worries, my terrible concerns. I like beautiful things around me. I like to be beautiful, because it delights my eyes and my soul is lifted up.”
Maya Angelou
So sorry I missed reading this quote until now! He definitely has a beautiful outlook on what the meaning of life is all about.
How beautiful!
